That was more than 6 years ago.
Since then she's written a book, run for the U-S Senate, and become the subject of a PBS documentary.

TRK 1: 3 years after her walk began.Congress finally banned soft money. But, her political activism didn't stop there.
TRK 2: In 2004 - Granny D took on popular US Senator Judd Gregg when no one else stepped forward. She was 94:
Bite: Granny D announces tape 04:42
For those who may doubt my capacity to serve, let me assure them that, while I may struggle for the right word from time to time, I can yet string my words together somewhat better than even our current President. And, while I need glasses for some reading, I can see clearly the difference between a necessary war and an unnecessary war, and the difference between a balanced budget and a deficit.
TRK: Her chances of winning were slim -- but, that never stopped "Granny D" from taking on a cause.
My chances are victory are considered very narrow, but this is how we begin great reforms. We continue to give the people a real option until the moment is right, and they go for it.
TRK: She lost the election, but captured 34 percent of the vote. Had she won -- Doris Haddock would have been the 2nd oldest Senator in US history.
TRK: The road to reform has taken Doris to schools, churchs even the halls of Congress. Her passion for making America better.as well as her cross country trek -- are the subject of a new PBS documentary.
Granny D: I began my walk, my 3,200 mile walk in California. And walked to Washington DC. Along the way I talked to many thousands of people, and many hundreds of reporters to generate interest in passing a bill that would make it illegal for corporations and unions to directly give their own money to candidates for federal office, which includes the President and members of Congress. The walk was difficult, but the very act of doing something difficult attracts people to your cause, especially if you are ninety years old. So many people helped me and the phones started ringing in the Senate and the House offices as I walked on. I thought I would not be able to finish my walk on time because a large blizzard hit near the end of my journey.
Luckily for me, I am a long time skier, so I skied the last hundred miles into Washington.
TRK: Granny D, with her trademark straw hat, has been described as a modern-day Johnny Appleseed:
The pundits say she started it.she started this mess.
stirred things up.I think that's good.I will continue to plant seeds until my last breathe
I will say this is wrong 1:44:22
my website is Granny D dot com, that's Granny G-R-A-N-N-Y-D dot com and I anybody that wants to come and walk with me for a mile, about a mile please do so when we are over with this. Thank you.
TRK: Most women her age -- would be content to take it easy. Not DORIS. Perhaps -- her book title says its best: "Granny D: You're Never Too Old to Raise a Little Hell".
TAPE 2 SND UP
Soundup: Granny D Campaigns tape #2 2:03:23 Saxaphone player sings about Granny D and Granny gives her a kiss.
TRK: Her indomitable spirit -- is the subject of a new PBS documentary.

Here to talk about the film "Granny D Goes to Washington": Doris "Granny D" Haddock and filmmaker Alidra Solday who captured a great deal of the adventure on film.
Welcome.
Q DORIS: I love the title of your memoir: "Granny D: You're never too OLD to raise a little hell" What kind of hell are you raising these days?
Q When you look back at your grueling cross country trek --
3200 miles.
Do you have a FAVORITE memory from your experience.
Q ALIDRA: What stands out for you when you look back at this project?
Q DORIS: In one clip you talk about what MOTIVATED you to lace up those sneakers?
WHAT DID YOU MEAN by that?
Q ALIDRA: What was it about THIS story that captured your imagination?
Q ALIDRA: The film's title conjures up images of "Mr Smith goes to Washington" & Jimmy Stewart taking on the MACHINE.
Was that COMPARISON intentional???
Q DORIS: What was the "LOWEST" moment for you during this odyssey?
DORIS: You had SOME health issues along the way
Ever consider GIVING UP?
Q ALIDRA: You have footage -- where Doris just collapses on a bed after a long day of walking -- you get the sense of the physical toll this was taking.
** How did you get all this footage? DORIS: One clip in the film.depicts your son's involvement in your cross country trek.
How much of a family effort WAS this?
Q ALIDRA: Could you tell when the campaign began to have some TRACTION???
Q DORIS: You described yourself as a PILGRIM.relied on kindess of strangers for food and shelter. How were you RECEIVED.by the public?
SUPRISED by the response??
Q ALIDRA: Were doors opened to you in TELLING this story?
What was it about this story that you thought might resonate with others across the country?
Q DORIS: You've become a media celebrity. At one point in the film.you're being interviewed on the Diane Reame show:
CLIP: basically explaining the cause
Was your message a TOUGH sell???
** Did people dismiss you because of your age --or, did you get more
respect because of it?
Q DORIS: At one point in the film you say: "Granny D" is kinder, more poetic than Doris
Haddock is. Do you consider "Granny-D" an ALTER EGO?
Q ALIDRA: Does Doris have a Granny-D personna?
Q DORIS: Is is true you were thrown in jail for reading the Declaration of Independence" aloud in the halls of Congress?
Q DORIS: You're a great grandmother, 96 -- have you hung up your sneakers yet?
Q ALIDRA: What do you want people to come away with after seeing the film?
Q DORIS: What do you think when people call you a modern day johhny appleseed?
Q What's NEXT for Granny D?
